Iowa Meat Goat Association

Welcome to the IMGA web site!

The Iowa Meat Goat Association was formed in the fall of 2003. We are an organization comprised of farms, individuals, and families from across Iowa and neighboring states. The IMGA provides publicity, educational programs, and other activities in the interest of meat goat owners and enthusiasts. The IMGA promotes meat goats and holds and supports events in accordance with the American Boer Goat Association. The IMGA exists to

• promote meat goats as a viable source of long-term stable income in agricultural operations

• establish group breeding plans for the improvement of meat goats

• enhance consumer demands at the retail level

To accomplish those objectives, the IMGA

Educates...
• the public about the role and use of meat goats in Iowa agriculture
• youth groups about the opportunities of raising meat goats

Encourages...
• and helps facilitate direct marketing strategies by the producer
• and promotes meat goats as a recognized class in livestock shows

Explores...
• ways to promote meat goats as a viable agricultural product
• long-term markets for Iowa meat goat producers
